About Magnificat Moms
What’s in a name: Magnificat Moms?
We look to Mary, the heart of the Holy Family, as our example, and desire to imitate her perfect love and have an intention to learn more about our Catholic faith, so we might be able to pass it on to our children.
What is a Magnificat Moms group?
A Magnificat Moms Group is a group of Catholic Moms who provide a community of support and encouragement to one another through faith and friendship. This could be through a formal meeting schedule of speakers, crafts, activities, and play dates, or as simple as a group of moms that meet for a book club or coffee. Either way, Magnificat Moms strives to support you as your group grows together in faith and community.
Many groups tend to foster to moms with young children (birth through very early elementary school age), although it is up to your leadership team if you wish to foster to a group of moms with a specific age range of children or leave it open to all mothers. There are advantages to both scenarios.
What is The Magnificat?
Elizabeth’s When Mary went to visit her cousin Elizabeth when they were both with child, Child, John, leapt in her womb. Elizabeth immediately recognized the blessedness of Mary’s child and Mary in turn gave all the glory to God through her Magnificat saying:
My soul magnifies the Lord
And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior;
Because he has regarded the lowliness of his handmaid;
For behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed;
Because he who is mighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his name;
And his mercy is from generation to generation
on those who fear him.
He has shown might with his arm,
He has scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
and has exalted the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has given help to Israel, his servant, mindful of his mercy
Even as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his posterity forever.
This is womanhood, and motherhood at one of its most joyous times. We see the friendship, and love that these women share because they are to become mothers. We take part in the prayer they share and give the glory to God our Father for the blessing of children.
